Category: accessible Devices
Hi. I was wanting to record a show I like on a tape recorder but didn't get to do it as there ended up being a game on in place of the show. Anyway, I was thinking and wondering, do any of y'all who are blind record TV shows? I mean, do y'all know of an accessible or off-the-shelf video recorder that I could use? I'm just curious, as I just looked it up but couldn't find anything on what I was trying to find. Do y'all know of something a blind person could use in recording TV shows? Thanks.
I still stand by what i said in a topic you made about something related sometime ago: get a usb tv.
A usb tv is about the size of a large fumb drive, there for much smaller than a tv.
You just put it in one of your usb ports and you will be able to recive free view and normal tv with out paying anything other than the cost of the box.
The program that will come with it will function just like a video recorder, allowing you to record tv per scedual (when your away from the computer) and will also let you pause live tv incase of a phonecall; and will resume from where you paused from when you press play. I think that this would be the best solution because you would be working in a inviroment that you would be used to (windows and jfw) The only downfall for this is that you will need a kinda big harddrive; not like hundreds of gigs, but more than a 20 if you are going to be recording regually.
This device costs about £40 in england so would probly cost about $70.
Pm if you have questions, BEN.
Hmmm! I'm not sure where you can get them in the US, but here in the UK, Cobalt Systems in Norfolk sells LG video recorders with a talking video remote control unit, which has functions for setting the clock, up to ten TV programmes you'd like to record, a button to check what you're recording and when and you can just switch the telly on and press a round record button to record the current program if you like the sound or look of it, and a timer button which tells the remote when to stop the video recorder after any period of time. You could ring them up and see if they're still selling them now, or you can just buy the remote control on its, own and use it with your current VCR if you have one already. You'll need to press the clock button till it says video code and change the code so it works with your video if it isn't LG.
Thanks for the above suggestions, and I look forward to hearing what more of y'all think as well. *smile* Ben, the USB one sounds good, but I couldn't find any other information on other blind people's use of them, like whether there might be a certain software that is most accessible. I don't know much of anything about this other than what was posted on this and my other discussion on that accessible TV, and so when something like this are any other suggestions are mentioned I like to find out as much as I can both by asking (as I did here), and then by also finding articles and other discussions about it. *smile* I figure that there would be certain brands (like how MP3 players are discussed for example?), where there are some of those USB TV's more accessible than others. So does it matter on certain brands if there are any, like if there's a best one? Also, I'm not sure how much space my computer has at the moment, but I do like the idea. Bellatrix Lestrange, that sounds cool too, and I went to the webpage of the company you mentioned and found what you are talking about. I don't think they carry the same product here though. But I did find that it turns out they do! sell a remote here in the U.S. at Independent Living Aids. However, it costs $130something dollars plus shipping. I'm going to call them just to ask more information about it, although I 'm not sure whether I can get it at the moment. Thanks both of you, and it'd be cool to hear more on this as well as other ideas on this on here. *smile*
